Legendary Bollywood personality, Bappi Lahiri’s Son, Music Composer and Director Bappa Lahiri and Taneesha Verma, Daughter of renowned Bollywood Stunt Co-ordinator, Mahendra and Shefali Verma celebrated their ‘Sangeet’ in a glittering ceremony at the Juhu Millenium Club last night.

The emcees for the evening who conducted the entire five hour show smoothly were Sudhanshu Pandey and Rupali Ganguly, close friends of the couple of the moment. As the who’s who of the industry made their way to the venue; the vibrant proceedings got underway with all celebrity guests taking to the stage in turns and adding to the spectacular extravaganza.

Once the star performers were done wowing the guests, the evening came to a lively end when the relatives of the bride took to the stage and danced away to some of the hottest item numbers of the season with gusto. It was a fitting finale to a beautiful evening, highlighting the significance of family in one’s lives. By the end of the evening, the the smiles on the faces of the Lahiri family were much wider as the Lahiris had gained a new Daughter!


After the glittering Sangeet ceremony the previous night, Bollywood legend Bappi Lahiri’s son, Composer Bappa Lahiri tied the knot with Taneesha Verma amidst exquisite settings at the ITC Grand Sheroton at Andheri last evening.

With the stage set for the mega wedding and the family and friends making their way to the beautifully adorned venue; the Groom dressed in a designer Beige Sherwani with embedded Gold work on it arrived in a regal double horse drawn chariot amidst widespread cheers. In a traditional gesture; Bappa got off his appointed horse, drew his sword from his scabbard and touched the picture of the Goddess at the entrance which was wonderfully adorned with flowers of all hues. Taneesha then emerged, dressed in a Red and Gold Lehnga; looking every bit the decked up Bride of the moment. Happiness was writ large on everybody’s faces and the air was abuzz with anticipation. Bappi Da himself was dressed to the tee in his trademark gold accessories, shades and traditional Bengali Dhoti and Sherwani to match.The mother of the groom was absent as per Bengali tradition

This was followed by the Jaimala ceremony at the entrance with the friends of both the Groom and Bride trying to lift the other even higher so as not to make the other bend! After all the cheerful banter and fun and games; the couple proceeded to the Mandap followed by the assembled guests. The Mandap itself was a sight to behold. Done up in vibrant hues of red and gold and bedecked with lovely floral arrangements, it beckoned the gorgeous couple. The wedding rituals that followed were carried out in sync with traditional Bengali customs.

Superstar Salman Khan, surrounded with his bevy of body guards came by to wish the newly wed couple wearing a Lavender coloured tee shirt, black trousers and a his trademark gracious smile! He went straight to the Mandap and warmly hugged the happy couple. Manohar Verma then playfully mouthed one of Salman’s famous dialogues – “Jacket De Na” to the Actor. Salman then put on the jacket and had a spent a few minutes talking to the Bride’s Grandfather . He left soon after exchanging pleasantries with the family and blessing the couple again.


Also in attendance were Sophie Chowdhury who came in an elegant Peach Lace Sari, Designer Masaba, Politicos Jaya Prada,Rajiv Shukla and Amar Singh,Rupali Ganguly, Singer Sunidhi Chauhan. Shradha Kapoor came in a dazzling Beige and Gold Sharara.

And the touching and emotional finale was the bride going home in a traditional ‘doli’ lifted by her brothers and family members. The Lahiris celebrated the homecoming of their new Daughter in style! It turned out to be one memorable Bengali wedding, befitting of the Lahiri family and a wonderful occasion that rang true with today’s joy and tomorrow’s promise.

After the incredible Sangeet ceremony and Wedding on Monday, Composer Bappa Lahiri and his lovely bride, Taneesha had a lavish reception that turned out to be a star studded event at the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu this evening.

The newly wed couple looked radiant and thrilled as the creme de la creme of the city turned up to congratulate them and their family on the happy occasion. While Bappa was dressed in a smart Sharbari Dutta traditional Peacock design Sherwani, Dhoti and smile that had him beaming from ear to ear; Taneesha looked gorgeous in a customary Bengali design Deep Red Sari embedded with Gold linings in addition to her beautiful jewellery. They stood in tow and mingled with the many guests who entered through an exquisite gateway entrance, in the beautifully adorned settings, replete with exquisite lighting, colours and drapes that accentuated the Red and Gold theme of the evening.

Those who attended the lavish do included the Bachchan family represented by the Big B himself, Jaya and Abhishek Bachchan, Jeetender Kapoor, Shakti Kapoor and his wife. Their daughter, Shraddha Kapoor looking jaw droppingly stunning in a Manish Malhotra Lehenga arrived with Rushabh Choksi. Both of them are childhood friends of the newly married couple and their presence certainly made for even more cheery scenes! Rupali Ganguly who is also a close family friend was present, as she was at the Sangeet and Wedding earlier. Sudhanshu Pandey walked in looking dapper with his wife Mona.

Actor Rani Mukherjee came with her niece while Kajol arrived with her cousin, Sharbani Mukherjee. The bubbly Kajol was so taken in by Reema Bansal’s(groom’s sister) toddler son’s perfect hair that she bemusedly asked him what shampoo he used amidst much laughter! Director/Producer Kiran Rao came looking stunning with her Mother-in-Law.

Also present were Padmini Kolhapure, Sahara Shree and Sapna Mukherjee, Munmun Sen and her husband. She was followed shortly by the arrival of her daughter, Actor Riya Sen who despite having to catch a flight out of town in a few  dropped by for some time as she’s a close friend of the bride. Mukesh Rishi, Jackie Shroff, Priya Dutt, Asha Bhosle,Sudhesh Bhonsle were also attendees. Mithun Chakraborty came with son, Mahakshay and heartily remarked that the evergreen hit, “I am a Disco Dancer” would hardly have been what it turned out to be without Bappi Da! Asrani was his effervescent self and had everyone in splits when he said to Bappi Da, “Dulha toh aap hain!”

Yash Chopra, Gulshan Grover, Anupam Kher, Chhagan Bhujbal, Jaya Prada, Poonam Dhillon and Raza Murad were present. Singers Abhijeet and Udit Narayan and his wife came to bless the hearty couple. Shaan dressed in a classy outfit by Troy came with his wife, Radhika who herself looked remarkable in a Samir Patel gold and beige creation. Also present were Javed and Naved Jaffrey.

All in all, the Reception was a testament to the celebration of the newly forged bonds of marriage between Bappa and Taneesha. The presence of numerous luminaries who turned up to wish the newly wed couple made the occasion all the more special.
